Administratively Palung Mountain National Park located in the district of North Kayong and Ketapang, West Kalimantan, Indonesia. Trench Mountain National Park is a national park located in the District of North Kayong and Ketapang, West Kalimantan . This area is gazetted as a national park on March 24, 1990 through the Ministry of Forestry Decree No. 448/Kpts-II/1990. The total area is 90,000 ha of this area.

The area has high biodiversity and consists of various types of ecosystems. Forests in this national park area consists of swamp forest, peat swamp, freshwater swamp forests, tropical mapah forest, mangrove forest, and montane forests. Some types of plants that exist in the National Park Mountain Trench is jelutung (Dyera costulata), ramin (Gonistylus bancamus), damar (Agathis berneensis), Pulai (Alstonia scholaris), Rengas (Gluta renghas), ironwood (Eusideroxylon zwageri), plants mangrove (Rhizopora spp.), kendeka (Bruguiera spp.), and various medicinal plants.

In addition, this region is a habitat of several groups of primates, such as orang-utans (Pongo pigmaeus), bekantan (Nasalis larvatus), monkey (Macaca nemestrina nemestrina), gibbons (Hylobathes agilis), and sailor (Hylobathes frontata). There are also various types of other animals, such as sun bear (Helarctos malayanus euryspilus), klampiau (Hylobates muelleri), slow loris ((Nyticebus coucang borneanus), deer (Muntiacus muntjak pleiharicus), deer (Tragulus Napu borneanus), four-striped ground squirrel (Lariscus hosei), jungle fowl (Gallus Gallus), rhinoceros hornbill (rhinoceros Buceros Borneoensis), hornbills ivory (Rhinoplax vigil), ivory tortoise (Orlitia borneensis), jars turtle (Caretta caretta), Siamese crocodile (Crocodylus siamensis), squirrel nuts (Rheithrosciurus macrotis), and about 200 species of birds.

Trench Mountain National Park also has become one of the forest people conservation in Indonesia. This national park is a habitat for 10 percent of the forest people population who live in the world (Berkmoes et.al, 2010). forest people that live in this area is the orangutan Pongo type pygmaues wumbii. National Park Mountain Trench, there is one species of orchids, namely the Black Orchid (coelogyne pandurata), which is widely available in around Matan River. Black Orchid usually blooms for 5-6 days in the month of February to April. This species is called the Black Orchid since there is a black color at the center of the flower. It would be a shame if the lover of orchids miss moments that flower bloom.

In addition to an unspoiled forest, Palung Mountain National Park also offers a variety of other fascinating attractions, including Datok Island Beaches, waterfalls, diverse variety of wildlife, and culture surrounding communities. For those of you who like to climb a mountain, you can make the climb in Mountain Trench (116 m asl) or Panti Mountain (1050 m asl).

In addition to destination attractions and outdoor adventures, national park has also become a center for research on various species of animals and plants. Research centers in this region is Stasuin Therapeutic Research Branch, a research station which was established in 1985 in the western foot of the Mountain Trench. One of the existing facilities at the Park Resort Mountain Trench is the Post. This area is managed by personnel who are equipped with communications equipment and ground transportation and water. In addition, there is also Shelter Tourism is a place of recreation and nature tourism. Existing facilities at the Station Children's Research Branch is the researcher camp facilities, laboratories, residence manager, and libraries. The tourists who want to visit the National Park Mountain Trench can take several paths. First, from Pontianak to Ketapang by airplane (2.5 hours) or by Express Boat (6 hours). Then, the trip from Ketapang to the Teluk Melano be reached by minibus (2 hours). The journey from Melano Bay to the National Park Mountain Trench can be reached by the Long Boat (6 hours).

Second, traveling from Pontianak to Trunk Bay can be reached by using the Express Boat (4 hours). Trunk Bay to the Gulf of Melano, can be reached by minibus (1 hour), and the Gulf Melano to Palung Mountain National Park can be reached by the Long Boat (6 hours).
