Indonesia Tourism - Kerinci Mountain

Mount Kerinci is the highest mountain in Sumatra , and the highest peak in Indonesia outside Papua. Mount Kerinci is located in Bukit Barisan Mountains, near the west coast, and situated about 130 km south of Padang. The mountain is surrounded by dense forests of Kerinci Seblat National Park and is the habitat of Sumatran tigers and Sumatran rhinos. Kerinci still active and last erupted in 2009.


Mount Kerinci with altitude 3805 m above sea level (asl), is the highest volcano in Indonesia. The mountain has a cone-shaped crater with a wall-sized section of 600 x 120 x 580 meters and 100 meters to the bottom wall. The crater contains water yellowish green. Mount Kerinci are on the line 10 ° 45.50 'south latitude and 160 ° 1010' east longitude. Which runs between the two districts in Jambi province, namely Kerinci Regency and Sulak Deras Regency.

In the area of Mount Kerinci, there are several types of forests growing along the slopes.   On its slopes are somewhat higher there Montane Forest is located at an altitude of 1.200 to 1.500 meters above sea level or contained in Fraser's Hill and Cameron High Land. In this type of forest grows a lot of points like the Principal conifer leaves Tyre Pain, Sprus and Gelam Mountain. In this forest there are also Rafflesia flowers, pot Apes and Principal Rhododendrons. With lower temperatures and more strong winds make the trees that grow in the forest with an average height between 1.5 meters to 18 meters.  After passing through the forest and arrive at the mountain peak situated at an altitude of 3805 m above sea level, the tourists can witness the stunning scenery of pity to miss. The tourists can see into all corners of the eyes of the wind direction to see the panoramic view of Mount Kerinci with a vast expanse of forests, the verdant tea plantations that merged into one entity in a symphony of natural beauty of Mount Kerinci.

There are currently no star-class hotels in the Kerinci regency until recently, but the tourists do not need to worry because the Full River City (the capital of the Kerinci regency), there are many middle-class hotel with a fairly cheap rate. Location can be reached by landline with two alternatives: first, the journey begins from Jambi City to the River Overflowing with a distance of about 500 km, with approximately 10 hours of travel time using public transportation, car rental or private car. Secondly, the trip can be started from Padang to Tapan then continued into the River Fully at a distance 278 km.
